Download ImageWatch Video South Indian Coconut Chutney IngredientsFor grinding-3⁄4 cup fresh/dessicated coconut2 tbsp roasted chana dal/peanuts1⁄2 inch ginger/ 1 garlic clove1-2 green chillies1⁄2 tsp salt3-4 tbsp water (as required)For the tempering:1 tbsp ghee/oil1⁄2 tsp mustard seeds1⁄2 tsp cumin seeds1⁄2 tsp urad dal9-10 curry leaves1 dry red chilliA pinch of hing (asafoetida)StepsTo grind-Add coconut, roasted gram, ginger/garlic, chilli, salt, water & blend until you get an almost smooth consistency. Add more water if required.Transfer the chutney to a serving bowlFor the tempering-Over medium heat add oil in a tadka pan, add the mustard seeds & allow them to splutter. Once popped, add cumin seeds & let them crackle.Add the urad dal & fry for 30 secs.Now add the curry leaves, dried red chilli & asafoetida.Fry for a few seconds until the curry leaves become crisp.Switch off the flame & immediately pour the tadka over the chutney.Mix well & enjoy with dosa, idlis etc!
